Why a Healthy Skin Microbiome Matters — and How SIV Serum Helps Restore Balance

Healthy skin isn’t just about what we remove (exfoliate) — it’s about what we protect. One of the most overlooked yet critical components of skin health is the skin microbiome, a living ecosystem of beneficial bacteria that works around the clock to protect, calm, and strengthen the skin.

At Neves Skin Studio, every treatment decision we make is rooted in preserving and restoring this delicate balance. That’s exactly why SIV Serum plays such an important role in our post-treatment and compromised-skin protocols.

What Is the Skin Microbiome?

The skin microbiome is a diverse community of beneficial microorganisms that live on the surface of the skin. These microbes help:

  • Defend against harmful bacteria and pathogens

  • Regulate inflammation and immune responses

  • Maintain the skin’s acid mantle (healthy pH) - your skin's barrier!!

  • Support barrier strength and hydration

When the microbiome is balanced, skin appears calmer, stronger, more resilient, and more luminous.

What Disrupts the Microbiome?

While professional exfoliation and advanced treatments are incredibly effective for improving texture, tone, and collagen production, they can temporarily disrupt the microbiome. In a controlled setting and when done by a professional who knows how to treat the skin this can be incredibly beneficial. However some treatments we find to be too aggressive for the skin to handle.

Common disruptors include:

  • Chemical peels and exfoliating acids. We are very selective in the types of chemical peels and exfoliating treatments we use at Neves.

  • Microneedling. While incredibly beneficial for collagen synthesis and other benefits, we take aftercare seriously to help restore your microbiome to a healthy symbiotic state.

  • Over-cleansing or harsh products. Overstripping the skin barrier can lead to compromized skin and sensitivities.

  • Environmental stressors and pollution

  • Chronic inflammation or impaired barrier function

Without proper support, disrupted skin can experience increased sensitivity, redness, breakouts, dehydration, delayed healing, or flare-ups of conditions like acne, rosacea, and dermatitis.

Why Post-Treatment Microbiome Support Is Essential

After exfoliation or corrective treatments, the skin is in a very receptive — but vulnerable — state. This is a critical window where nourishing, protective ingredients can dramatically influence healing outcomes.

Rather than focusing solely on “repairing” the surface, we prioritize rebalancing the microbiome, which allows the skin to heal intelligently on its own.

This is where SIV Serum truly shines with corum sensing technology to bring the microbiome back to a homeostatis state.

How SIV Serum Helps Rebalance the Skin Microbiome

SIV Serum is specifically formulated to support the skin’s natural ecosystem and restore harmony after disruption. Using bacterial spores meant to balance skin health and three other ingredients for lipid protection. It works by:

  • Supporting beneficial bacteria while discouraging imbalance

  • Calming visible inflammation and reactivity

  • Strengthening the skin barrier for faster recovery

  • Enhancing post-treatment healing and resilience

Because it does not rely on aggressive actives or exfoliants, SIV is safe and effective even when the skin is sensitized or compromised. It can also universally be used along with other skin ingredients such as retinals, acids, vitamin c's etc...

Who Can Use SIV?

Anyone. It's good for all skin types and have seen results in young babies to mature skin. From compromised skin conditions to those needing extra hydration for dullness. We recommend having it on hand as a tool in your skincare toolbox.

It's not available in two sizes with new packaging in a convenient dropper bottle.

How We Recommend Using?

Can be used am or pm. Be sure to shake the bottle well to disperse the bacterial spores evening. Drop 4 drops into the palm of the hand, warm up by rubbing hands together and then gently pat into the skin in the areas you'd like to treat. Safe for face and body. Can follow up with your other active serums, moisturizers and spf if using during the day.
